The music industry has been in a downward spiral ever since it so cleverly tried to stand in the way of technology and became roadkill on the information superhighway.
In his new book 'Dirty Little Secrets of the Record Business ... Why So Much Music You Hear Sucks', music journo and author Hank Bordowitz portrays the ugly side of the music industry."A lot of the popular music you hear out there, especially on the radio, is just
crap," said Bordowitz. "But there is probably more good music available than ever
before, it's just much harder to find."
Bordowitz writes about how radio payola and shareholders now dictate which artists' music gets exposed. He says the industry got caught up in it's own corporate trappings and he names names.
He says that the public shouldn't blame Pussycat Dolls and Jessica Simpson for the crap that pollutes the charts of the 21st century, the real reason blames the industry itself for bad music.
The book is a tell-all about how "greed, stagnation and shortsightedness that have left the multi-billion dollar music business ailing and listeners' ears hungry for something better".
The book looks at the horror contracts artists are expected to sign to join a major label, and promotes how these days, artists have a larger income by signing with Independent labels and reducing their overhead.
