The White Stripes have been left without a record deal after their American indie label V2 announced a massive operational restructure.
Billboard reported that all staff, including label president Andy Gershon, lost their jobs after the decision by parent company Sheridan Square Entertainment. Sheridan will concentrate on the label's back catalogue, which also includes Jack White's other band The Raconteurs, as well as The Crystal Method and Moby. The only new music put out by V2 will be in the gospel genre. These artists will all now be looking for new record deals. It is reported that future White Stripes records will be released on the band's own imprint, Third Man Records. A publicist for The White Stripes told Pitchfork Media that the band will also be retaining the rights to their back catalogue, as their contract with V2 had already expired.
