Chris Martin has told the BBC that Coldplay’s next release will be a concept album.
He explained it as being “from the point of view of two people who are a bit lost, two like-minded outsiders who meet in a very difficult environment and therefore have a journey together.”
He continued, “It’s a concept album but it's supposed to be very personal within a big framework. Does that make sense?”
The band will be working with noted experimental musician and longtime U2 producer Brian Eno, who himself just released the intriguing sound collage album ‘A Small Craft On A Milk Sea’.
Martin credited Eno with the idea to do a concept album, saying, “Brian is the sower of seeds and ideas and experimenting, which is very liberating.”
Their last album, Viva La Vida Or Death And All His Friends was also produced by Eno and Marcus Dravs, the pair that Martin called a “tag team” will be working on the new record.
There are hints that the next album may be more experimental that their previous work, with Martin admitting, “We spent a year making a lot of noise.”
