WJBK, the Fox affiliate in Detroit, has confirmed that Aretha Franklin does, indeed, have cancer. According to their story, a family member told their reporter that Franklin was suffering from the disease and that she was doing "OK."
Rumors have been swirling since Aretha Franklin first canceled six months worth of appearances and then, suddenly, went into the hospital for an unnamed operation. That rumor mill is now running at full speed with the National Inquirer reporting that the singer is suffering from advanced pancreatic cancer.
According to sources, doctors found the cancer when Franklin was being treated for fractured ribs after a fall over the summer and, based on her age and general medical condition, was given less than a year to live (pancreatic cancer has a less than 10% survival rate).
Keep in mind that this report originated with the National Inquirer whose record might be a bit spotty in "she-is-dating-him" type of reporting but they have been quite accurate over the years when breaking stories on serious illnesses.
