Mike Skinner of The Streets wearily announces the release of a year-old, “painfully repetitive” album.
Skinner has been releasing bits and bobs of late, sporadically and heavily driven by social networking.
He recently put up a rambling blog post where he announces a new album, to be called Cyberspace And Reds, only released because “they are building up to release it”.
He admits that the music is a year old and will be available before February 7 next year; that “the lyrics will make no sense” and “it will be painfully repetitive”.
He writes, “the way it is with the internet these days it doesnt have to be like this because as I have demonstrated, i can have an idea and then record it and post it on youstube the same day. i feel negative about everything i’m doing at the moment because ive been doing the same thing for as long as i remember.”
The cover was to be the first picture that any follower tweeted at him which had anything to do with computers (it turned out to be a giant bear standing on a table with an old computer) and he promised a song about the picture on the album.
And the first song posted is to be called ‘Ragga By Way Of Duran Duran’, and another song is going to be based on the first piece of audio that another follower tweets him.
Skinner also revealed that he’s mostly been doing field recordings, so this could be strange and interesting.
