James Blunt has told Undercover that a recently story out of the UK claiming that he stopped World War III was taken out of context.
“The headline was misleading but was a totally real story,” James Blunt tells Undercover.fm. “It is a shame that the newspapers didn’t focus on the General who was there”.
The truth of the matter was that Blunt was merely giving directions to his fellow soldiers from a map. It was the British General who saved the day. “I was the lead soldier of 30,000 people who got to airport during the Kosovo conflict of 1999. I wasn’t in charge of them. I was leading them,” he says. “It means I was reading a map and making sure we went left when we should have done. When we got to the airport there were 200 Russians. They were lined up with their guns and there was a Mexican standoff”.
Blunt says it was an American General who nearly started World War III but his British leader stopped it. “We got the insane instruction from General Wesley Clark, the American supreme commander to overpower them and overrun them,” he says. “At that stage being the front lead officer in a very highly stressed situation I said I was uncomfortable and didn’t understand my instructions. This went on and built up for what seemed like a long period of time. Fortunately our British Commander General Sir Mike Jackson came in and said I am not going to have my soldiers responsible for starting World War III and we came up with a much simpler plan to win the day”.
Blunt will visit Afghanistan in coming weeks. “I’m going to Afghanistan this Christmas to try and sing the Taliban into surrender,” he said.
