In the first week the Beatles catalogue was made available on iTunes, they sold over 450,000 albums and two million individual songs.
On November 16, iTunes finally launched a catalogue of 13 remastered Beatles albums, and the double disc ‘Past Masters’ and Red and Blue collections.
Also, fans who bought the entire box set received a ‘Live At The Washington Coliseum 1964’ concert film.
It’s a small bonus, since the digital box set is $149 in the US and $259 in Australia, yet the physical box set can be bought from Amazon for $130.
Also, individual Beatles albums are selling for between $21 and $35 on the Australian iTunes, whereas the prices in the US are between $13 and $20.
The Australian dollar has been hovering around parity with the US dollar for weeks.
Therefore, this might account for the fact that Beatles titles are nowhere near as high on the Australian iTunes chart as they appear on the US iTunes chart.
Regardless, those iTunes figures - 450,000 albums and two million songs - are massive. We’ll just have to wait until the weekend to see how the ARIA chart reflects the numbers.
