Nick Cave's 2007 rock band project Grinderman will release its debut self-titled album on March 5.
The band features Cave, Warren Ellis, Martyn Casey and Jim Sclavunos. Two songs from the album 'Get It On' and 'No Pussy Blues' can be heard at the band's MySpace site at http://www.myspace.com/grinderman. 'Get It On' will be released as a 1000 unit limited edition 7" single this week in the UK.
About 'Get It On', Ellis says "This song is sung across an excoriating mandolin loop based on an obscure lute melody from the 11th century".
"It is a lament for the messianic rock n.. roll hero," says Cave, "and begins, of course, with a statement of intent."
"Mice, dogs, baboons, hyenas", says Marty Casey.
"Yeah, well, for me all the enemies of inspiration assume animal shapes," explains Cave, "they are all around us...and of course, inside us."
"From all the loops I originally sent you, this was the first one that really cried out to be used," mumbles Ellis, from the black hole in his shovel-shaped beard.
"Yeah, it grinds...it ground..." growls Sclavunos.
The Grinderman album will be released through Mute Records.
