Sad news as Brisbane’s Troubadour shuts down and Melbourne’s Birmingham stops live shows.
The beloved, sweaty upstairs venue in Brisbane’s Fortitude Valley, The Troubadour, will shut down at the end of the month.
The Troubadour has been hosting some of the nation’s hottest bands since 2003.
A statement read in part that “a matter that has gone beyond the control of owners Jamie Trevaskis and Corinna Scanlon”. More information is to come.
A farewell show event will be held on Sunday November 21.
And in another bummer for live music, Melbourne’s Birmingham Hotel will also cease hosting live music at the end of the month.
Bookers Indra Adams and Chris Bosma did a stellar job reviving the reputation of the Smith St venue, previously known as a neo-Nazi haunt.
Music will cease on November 21 as well, the owners citing live music as “not present[ing] a sustainable business model”.
The venue was recently renovated, shifting the live music room from one end to the other due to noise complaints.
