Australian soul singer Renee Geyer has damaged a shopfront after driving her car through the window of the premises in the Melbourne suburb of Elwood last night.
Geyer was in Ormond Rd, Elwood yesterday (November 2, 2010) when she reversed into two parked cars and then accelerated through the window of Wink’s Optometrist at around 6.25pm.
A mechanical failure is being blamed for the accident.
The singer, ironically famous the hit ‘Heading In The Right Direction’, was not injured in the accident.
Renee Geyer is arguably the greatest female Australian soul singer ever. Her string of hits includes ‘Say I Love You’, ‘Shakey Ground’, ‘Stares and Whispers’, ‘It's a Mans Mans World’ and ‘If Loving You Is Wrong’.
Renee has sung on albums by Joe Cocker, Jackson Browne, Neil Diamond, Bonnie Raitt, Sting and Buddy Guy. She was the female vocal on Sting’s ‘We’ll Be Together’.
In the 80s she fronted the band Easy Pieces with Hamish Stuart and Steve Ferrone from the Average White Band.
Recently, Renee had been diagnosed with breast cancer but is currently in remission.
