The Cars had been hinting at a reunion for some time, posting photos of the group together in the studio, but now finally singer Rick Ocasek has confirmed that it is all happening.
The band featuring original members Rick Ocasek, Elliot Easton, Greg Hawkes and David Robinson, have been recording with producer Jacknife Lee.
Benjamin Orr, a founding member, bass guitarist and singer of a few of their hits including ‘Drive’, passed away in 2000 from pancreatic cancer.
The Cars formed in Boston in1976 and signed to Elektra Records in 1977. Their 1978 self-titled debut album featured the hits ‘My Best Friend’s Girl’, ‘Just What I Needed’ and ‘Good Times Roll’.
Their final album ‘Door To Door’ in 1987 was a commercial failure and the band broke up the following year.
Hawkes and Easton put together The New Cars in 2005 with Todd Rundgren on vocals but the group never recorded a studio album.
The forthcoming album from The Cars is expected to be titled ‘69’.
