Ringo Starr's childhood home has been boarded up to stop Beatles fans from stealing mementos from it.
The house ' number nine Madryn Street, Liverpool, North East England - has had metal shutters fitted to it after numerous souvenir hunters descended upon the property to take bricks from around the windows of the home, which is scheduled to be demolished. The shutters have been put in place as a safety measure, as if more bricks are removed the property could present a danger to passers-by.
Fans are lobbying to keep the home ' where the 70-year-old Beatles star's family lived when he was born - from being knocked down.
Philip Coppell, Chairman of the Save Madryn Street Society, said: 't is encouraging to see that the council has taken steps to halt the activities of the souvenir hunters.
'Fans from all over the world have objected to the demolition and we are still hopeful that we can persuade the city to revoke the demolition order.'
The home is the only house linked to a member of The Beatles ' Ringo, Sir Paul McCartney, John Lennon and George Harrison ' which does not have protected status.
Another group, The Beatles Society, wants to see the bricks sold off for charity if the house is demolished, with some parts saved for the local Liverpool Museum of Life.
The local council wants to knock down the home and surrounding streets to make way for new housing.
