Bryan Ferry has called Kate Moss the most important visual icon since Marilyn Monroe.
The 36-year old supermodel graces the cover of the new Bryan Ferry album ‘Olympia’.
“When we asked her and she said, "Yeah, I'd love to," it was fantastic. Kate is the modern femme fatale. She's the most important visual icon since Marilyn Monroe. So... Look out,” Ferry said in an interview promoting the new record.
Ferry has a long history of using models on his album covers. The 1975 Roxy Music album featured his soon to be fiancé Jerry Hall as the mermaid. Hall later appeared in Ferry’s ‘Let’s Stick Together’ video.
The 1973 Roxy Music album featured Playmate of the Year Marilyn Cole.
‘Olympia’ has a lot of links with the past for Ferry, which is why he wanted to give the cover the retro attention he has. “For me this is an important record. A lot of people have worked very hard on it for quite a while. I thought, well, we've got to have a great cover, and the ideal girl to have on the cover was Kate Moss,” he said.
The album features original Roxy Music members Phil Manzanera, Andy Mackay and Brian Eno who are all together on the track ‘Song For The Siren’, making it more of a Roxy Music song than a Ferry solo track.
Special guests through-out the record include Flea (Red Hot Chili Peppers), David Gilmour (Pink Floyd), Jake Shears (Scissor Sisters), Steve Nieve (The Attractions) and Groove Armada.
‘Olympia’ was released by EMI this week.
