Danielle Spencer has returned to music an eight-year gap with the release of ‘Calling All Magicians’.
Danielle says that it is not a surprise she had an eight-year gap between her first and second album. Something got in the way. “Marriage and motherhood, I know. I tell you what. It's a journey,” she tells Undercover News. “It wasn’t a conscious decision. I got married and fell pregnant very quickly. The decision was made for me. I went on this ride of marriage and motherhood and making the family unit work. My partner (Russell Crowe) works overseas a lot and does a lot of travelling so there is a lot of holding things together so there didn’t seem to be a lot of space for me at that time to continue with my own thing”.
In those eight years she didn’t totally give it away. “When I finally made the decision that I was going to get the album together (because I had been writing along the way of making babies, I always play piano or sing or write), but when I made the decision that I wanted to get a body of work together and make an album then it did come together a lot more quickly”.
Her husband Russel Crowe directed the video for her the single off the album ‘Wish I’d Been Here’. She says they have a professional working relationship. “We’ve always had this feeling like “oh, is this going to be alright but we've done a clip before and we met working on a movie so our relationship kicked off in a professional setting. I guess that was already there. So we revert that that professional persona. We don’t really relate to each other as husband and wife on set.”
