Whitney Houston has been forced to auction off expensive possessions after finding herself in debt to a storage company.
Designer costumes and grand pianos went under the hammer after the singer was forced to reel in her $US175,000 debt to the storage company. A Yamaha grand piano sold for $12,000, whilst an acrylic grand piano by Schimmel fetched $20,000. The buyer of the Schimmel claimed that a new model of the piano was worth in excess of $US120,000.The auction, which took place in a warehouse 15 miles west of New York, was primarily dominated by concert gear from Houston's 1999 tour. Other items included water-damaged vinyl records and a coffee maker.
Houston, whose career has been in a downward spiral as she has struggled with drug and Bobby Brown problems, has been in rehabilitation and plans to release a new album this year.
