Actor Tom Bosley, best known as Howard Cunningham in the hit TV show Happy Days, has died from heart failure after a battle with lung cancer.
Bosley began his acting career in 1949 the Woodstock Opera House in Illinois with Paul Newman. In 1963, he made his first movie ‘Love with the Proper Stranger’ alongside Natalie Wood.
While he had a number of TV roles in the 60s, including an appearance in The Virginian, it was his role as Howard Cunningham in Happy Days that made him a household name worldwide. Mr. C (as he was known) starred in the first 7 seasons of the show and then returned for the final season 11.
After Happy Days, Bosley played Sheriff Amos Tupper in Murder, She Wrote and Father Dowling in Father Dowling Mysteries.
His final role was in the 2010 movie The Back-Up Plan alongside Jennifer Lopez.
Tom Bosley is survived by his wife Patricia Bosley, his brother Richard Bosley, his daughter Amy Baer, stepdaughters Kimberly diBonaventura and Jamie Van Meter and seven grandchildren.
