Nick Lowe has been touring North America and visited Toronto last week.
Lowe has been touring North America for the last few weeks with his band, the first time he has brought them along in ten years. According to an interview that he did recently with the Boston Globe, he's mellowed a bit with age, not dipping back too often into his music from the 70's.
Q. Will we be hearing you bring back some of your oldest songs, things like “Shake and Pop’’?
A. I think the answer is no. Nothing quite that vintage. I will go back to the ’80s. We do “Ragin’ Eyes,’’ which is about ’83.
Q. Would it feel strange to play songs from the ’70s? You’re a different guy.
A. In the main, as long as I feel I can actually sing the lyric without feeling like an idiot, I’ll do it.
Lowe also said not to look for a reunion with Dave Edmunds and Rockpile. "I’m just too old to play that loud. I don’t like playing that sort of music. It was great fun at the time, but there’s something sort of disgusting about seeing a bunch of old guys try to do things that they did when they were kids."
Here's Nick's set from his October 13 show at The Mod Club in Toronto.
