Songwriters Hall Of Fame Announce 2011 Noms

The Songwriters Hall of Fame announced their nominations for induction in 2011 on Friday.

They are broken down into Non-Performing Songwriters and Performer/Songwriters.

There is at least one odd choice this year on the Non-Performing side as Joe South has been placed in the category.  South may not perform anymore, but in the late-60's and early-70's he had a number of popular songs including two that both peaked nationally at number 12, Games People Play and Walk a Mile in My Shoes.

Voting members of the group will now pick three non-performing and two performer/songwriter inductees, which will be announced after the first of the year. They will be celebrated at the 42nd Annual Awards Gala later in 2011.

The nominees for Non-Performing Songwriter:

John Bettis (Slow Hand, Top of the World, Human Nature)

Tony Hatch (Downtown, Don't Sleep in the Subway, I Know a Place)

Ivy George Hunter & Mickey Stevenson (Dancing in the Streets, It Takes Two, Pride & Joy)

Dennis Lambert & Brian Potter (Don't Pull Your Love, Ain't No Woman (Like the One I've Got), One Tin Solder (The Legend of Billy Jack)

Dan Penn & Spooner Oldham (Cry Like a Baby, I'm Your Puppet, Sweet Inspiration)

Dean Pitchford (Almost Paradise, Fame, Footloose)

Jerry Ragovoy & Bert Berns (Cry Baby, Pata Pata, Piece of My Heart)

Joe South (Down in the Boondocks, Hush, (I Never Promised You a) Rose Garden)

Billy Steinberg & Tom Kelly (Eternal Flame, Like a Virgin, True Colors)

Jim Steinman (Making Love Out of Nothing At All, Total Eclipse of the Heart, Two Out of Three Ain't Bad)

Allen Toussaint (Mother-in-Law, Southern Nights, Working in a Coal Mine)

Steven Tyler & Joe Perry (Dream On, Sweet Emotion, Walk This Way)

Kenneth "Babyface" Edmonds (Breath Again, End of the Road, I'll Make Love to You)

Garth Brooks (If Tomorrow Never Comes, The Thunder Rolls, Unanswered Praryers)
