Weezer have responded to an online campaign to raise $10 million to get the band to break up.
In an online stunt, campaign organiser and no fan of the band James Burns, started up an online petition on fundraising site ThePoint to collect $10 million dollars, which he would offer Weezer if they promised to stop releasing music.
He wrote: “This is an abusive relationship, and it needs to stop now. I am tired of my friends being disappointed year after year. I am tired of endless whimsical cutesy album covers and music videos."”
Now Weezer drummer Patrick Wilson has responded to the petition by joking on twitter that they might strike a deal with Burns… for $20 million.
He wrote: “if they can make it 20, we'll do the “deluxe breakup”.”
At publication time, the petition has raised $285 - only $9,999,715 short of their goal, and $19,999,715 short of Wilson’s offer.
