George Michael thought he had New Year's all sorted out. Until his crew decided to experiment with the pyrotechnics.
The singer, who is celebrating 25 years in the public eye, was paid £1.7 million to perform at Russian billionaire Vladimir Potanin's New Year's party. All was good, for a while. Until stuff started to catch fire. The 43-year-old was aboard a private jet when fire engulfed his equipment back in Russia. A 'source' told tabloid 'The Sun', "Loads of his gear was melted and some of his band's instruments were wrecked when they were covered in ash."
The blame game has already begun, with reports suggesting a majority of the damage was caused by water used to fight the flames.
Regardless, Michael can now claim to be the highest paid performer in Russian history. He earned £23,823 a minute whilst performing for the ninth richest man in Russia. In cash. Or, so we hear.
