A film based on the death of Tupac Shakur is one step closer to fruition with new scriptwriters.
New York Magazine has revealed that famed scriptwriters Stephen J. Rivele and Chris Wilkinson, who wrote the Ali and Nixon biopics, have been drafted to work on the forthcoming Tupac flick.Wilkinson has stated that the key to the new film will be not to make it in any way "biopic-y", and they intend to focus on the last day of Shakur's life, with flashbacks to the previous four years.
They suggest that the film could start shooting as early as November, since it already has Training Day director Antoine Fuqua on board.
Producers are looking to cast an unknown to play the ill-fated East Coast rap hero who was gunned down in a Las Vegas drive-by shooting in1996.
The same approach was taken by the makers of last year's Notorious biopic of Tupac friend turned rival Notorious B.I.G.
Tupac also appeared in that film as a character, played by mostly unknown actor Anthony Mackie who gained notoriety since for his role in The Hurt Locker.
