Boys Like Girls stopped by the Undercover studios on their recent Australian tour, trying out new chocolate, talking about their album ‘Love Drunk’ and dropping hints at their new material.
"We're working on another record, but it's really cool to go back and revisit what it was like and do it over in other countries and stuff," front man Martin Johnson told Undercover in reference to the staggered release dates of their record. "We love this record and we're really really proud of it and stoked to be still working on it.""The code to crack is definitely like, a pop song is a pop song, we write our songs on an acoustic guitar really stripped down, and a pop song can go in any direction," Johnson explained. "You can throw a techno beat behind it, or you can make it a country song, you could produce it acoustic or just completely burst it out electric.
"For this record we really want to bring out, well we had spent three and a half years on the road after our first record. We had grown so much as a band in that time that our sound had become really amplified and we really brought out the edge in a lot of songs and we really wanted to bring that forward in this record."
Johnson also was quick to defend his songwriting mainly being about boys liking girls, saying:
"I think if you really listen to most bands that stuff that really hits home is the stuff that's about, well the classic songs are about relationships and it's what people can relate to. If we wrote a song about touring life, other bands would be able to relate to it, but the general public wouldn't. I don't think it has anything to do with the band name or anything, it's just like a journal."
Johnson wasn't just interested in music. "The honeycomb bars [in Australia] are totally worth the thirteen hour flight. I can go home happy now," he said of his choc-honeycomb breakfast.
