After recently announcing studio time and a new album, Battles has lost frontman Tyondai Braxton.
The US math-rock supergroup recently got us salivating over a follow-up to their critically-worshipped debut Mirrored. Now they've announced that singer, keyboardist and guitarist Tyondai Braxton has separated from the band to pursue his own path.
The band released a statement through their record label Warp.
It reads, in part: "Due to Battles' ambitions of finishing their second studio album followed by commitments to a full touring schedule in 2011, and Tyondai's own commitments as a solo artist and his desire not to tour, both Battles and Tyondai have decided to move on without each other."
In the statement, Battles lament a sad but amicable split and wish him the best.
What this means for the album is unsure. Battles are regarded as an experimental rock supergroup, and the loss of avant garde composer, singer, keyboardist and guitarist Braxton will greatly affect their sound.
