R.E.M. have been in the studio working on a new record.
The album will be the band's fifteenth record and sees them return to the studio with producer Jacknife Lee.According to an interview Ken Stringfellow of The Posies did with NME, the album "is sounding really great, very old school."
Stringfellow made the remarks after visiting R.E.M. bassist Mike Mills at his home in Paris.
"The first track had vocals which were mixed super low which I couldn't understand and I was like, 'Yes, a return to form.' Mike was on about pushing the vocals up and I was like, 'No, don't do it,'" he added.
He goes on to say that there is Byrds-like electric and acoustic guitar, "some piano songs" and the album has a "very live feel".
Don't expect to hear the album before the year is out, but rest assured, it's on its way.
