The SXSW music and media conference will be 25 years old in 2011 and founder Roland Swenson has declared the business of SXSW 2011 officially open.
In a statement at the SXSW website, Swenson says, "SXSW 2011 will mark the 25th edition of an event that draws over 30,000 creative professionals from around the world to Austin each March. Born in a time before the web, email, or smart phones, SXSW history bridges the analog and digital eras. As wireless communication has connected people with the entire planet from their desktops, the need for face-to-face encounters has only grown. The value of meeting people to share ideas and do business is what makes SXSW work. SXSW is a yearly reintroduction to the passion and artistry required to produce meaningful creations that can engage the imagination of a global audience".In 2010, more than 90 venues showcased over 2000 acts across four days at the event in Austin, Texas. During SXSW, those four days in March become the centre of the music industry universe with people from record labels, publishing companies, promoters, publicists and media from all over the planet converging on the city of Austin.
"We've been honored to provide a launching pad for creative endeavors from around the globe for 25 years, Swenson says. "Join us in March of 2011 to discover what comes next. The planning for 2011 is underway. Start talking, registering, applying, and getting involved. March will be here before you know it".
