The headline might read like spam, but it’s true: Amanda Palmer sold $15,000 worth of music and merch in three minutes.
The Dresden Dolls singer and now solo chanteuse did music-hosting site Bandcamp.com a massive promotional favour by using it to sell her new EP.The EP is titled Amanda Palmer Performs The Popular Hits Of Radiohead On Her Magical Ukulele and features Amanda Palmer performing the popular hits of Radiohead on her (supposedly) magical ukulele.
According to the site, she sold $15K worth of music and merchandise (even signed ukuleles and a personal phone call performance) in three minutes.
The price might've helped.
She followed Radiohead's lead by charging 84 cents for the EP (which is only the royalty due to Radiohead for performing their songs) but gave buyers the option to pay more if they so desired.
Apparently the average buyer chose to pay $5, with one fan shelling out $100.84.
The news should be a huge boost to bandcamp, with every artist now presuming that they can earn an hourly rate of $300,000 using the site.
