Chart-topping rapper Drake wants to play Barack Obama in a film.
The Young Money-affiliated rapper debuted at number one in the US with his first album Thank Me Later when it was released in June. Now he had bigger ambitions. He said, "I hope somebody makes a movie about Obama's life soon because I could play him. That's the goal… Anytime I see him on TV, I don't change the channel, I definitely pay attention and listen to the inflections of his voice… so when the day comes I'm not scrambling to learn how to speak like him."
The quote was from a recent Paper magazine interview. It didn't make it into the original article but was part of a selection of 'outtake' quotes.
Drake has acting form. The Canadian was a teen star of the high school melodrama Degrassi: The Next Generation, playing wheelchair-bound student Jimmy Brooks.
He also spoke about other possible film work to Paper in another outtake, saying "I want to be involved in great film projects. I don't want to do the basketball movie that everyone does. I don't want to do the typical black film that everyone expects."
He's certainly becoming a big enough star to justify it, Thank Me Later has held onto Billboard's number two position for the last three weeks and sold three-quarters of a million copies in the US alone.
