The extremist Westboro Baptist Church picketed Lady Gaga’s St. Louis show.
The church, which predominantly consists of the extended family of notorious bigot Fred Phelps, declared that they would protest Gaga's wickedness. On their website they described Lady Gaga as a "little false prophetess" and her fans "over-indulged sycophants" who are all heading straight to hell.
But the church are no music critics. Rather than a reasoned analysis of her hollow, publicity-hungry, art school antics, they were more concerned with her sexual ambiguity, saying "God hates 'Lady' Gaga" and calling her gender-confused and self-loathing.
Gaga responded on her site prior to the show, discouraging her fans from responding to any provocation by the members of the church, saying "inside at the Monsterball we preach love and unity".
Following the show, Gaga tweeted: "Tonight love and hate met in St. Louis. And love outnumbered the hate, in poetic thousands. Hate left. But love stayed."
God was asked to comment but had not responded by press time.
