Tom Jones has hit back at Island Records VP David Sharpe for his comments saying Jones’ new record is a “sick joke”.
Jones described Sharpe as "some fella who writes the cheques" and added that the label has been profusely apologising to the singer.Jones said "It's not coming from the creative people in the record company, because they're backing it up all the way, I mean they're thrilled with it, so I don't understand it."
The original comments came from a leaked document where Sharpe referred to Jones' new gospel tinged album as "a sick joke" and claimed the label didn't "invest" in an established artist for a gospel record, saying it was "certainly not what we paid for."
The album, 'Praise and Blame', was produced by Ethan Johns (Kings of Leon, Ryan Adams, Crowded House) and will hit stores at the end of July.
