Bassist, songwriter and hype-magnet Pete Wentz goes mainstream pop.
Platinum punks Fall Out Boy have lain dormant for many months now, and Wentz has slyly announced a new side project Black Cards. On his personal blog, Wentz posted the cryptic, grammatically suspect message: "there will be no treasure hunt. not viral campaign. just the opposite- next week things will appear on this site in a very controlled distribution. if you enjoy it, keep coming back. if its not for you than we understand."
A link directed to a site for Black Cards, which will be bombastic, female-fronted pop with an Aguilera big band flavour judging by the first sample there.
Wentz was the lone hold-out from Fall Out Boy who hadn't gone off on his own.
Guitarist and frontman Patrick Stump has a solo album planned for release before the end of the year.
Second guitarist Joe Trohman and drummer Andy Hurley have a new band, The Damned Things, featuring members of Anthrax and Every Time I Die.
Hurley also recently toured with reunited militant metalcore outfit Earth Crisis and has been managing his label Fuck City.
Fall Out Boy appears completely defunct. Their dot com hasn't been updated since April, and their hasn't been updated since January.
But Wentz insists that the band continues to exist. On July 4 he tweeted: "there is absolutely no difference in the status of f.o.b. - exactly the same. i havent "left" the band nor has anyone else."
