It’s been a big week for Paul McCartney, mobbed in Mexico, honoured at the White House and admitting to brain fades.
Following McCartney’s final performance in Mexico City, his tour bus was mobbed by hoodlums in a “dodgy no-go part” of town, according to UK tabloid The Mirror.Days later the softie ex-Beatle was honoured with the Gershwin Prize for Popular Song (named for legendary songwriting brothers George and Ira Gershwin) by the US Library of Congress.
He performed for President Obama and special guests at the East Room of the White House, playing ‘Got To Get You Into My Life’ from 'Revolver'.
He was then honoured with cover versions of his hits performed by Stevie Wonder, Elvis Costello, Faith Hill, Herbie Hancock and the Jonas Brothers.
Good thing they came to cover his butt, since McCartney admitted during a press conference before the ceremony that he often forgets many of his own lyrics.
He said, "To tell you the truth, I don’t really know my songs". He noted that classics like ‘The Long And Winding Road’, ‘Lady Madonna’ and ‘Blackbird’ aren’t a problem but much of his extensive catalogue slips his mind.
Maybe the Mexicans were just trying to refresh his memory.
