The music world suffered its worst ever sales week this week since 1991, the year SoundScan started measuring over-the-counter sales.
5.3 million albums sold in the past week in the United States. The number one album by Justin Bieber was worth just over 60,000 sales, that in itself was the second lowest selling number one ever recorded.Last week, metal band Godsmack topped the chart with 117,000 sales. As metal fans are prone to buy an album as soon as it’s out, that album dropped 63 percent to 43,000 and dropped back to no. 9.
In perspective though there wasn’t a major album released last week to entice buyers.
Other debuts included The National ‘High Violet’ at no. 3, Dead Weather ‘Sea of Cowards’ at no. 5, Charice ‘Charice’ at no. 8 and As I Lay Dying ‘Powerless Rise’ at no. 10.
