Actual Chinese democracy seemed a more probable than the Guns N' Roses album, but Axl Rose has finally named a date.
In an open letter posted on the Guns N' Roses website, a surprisingly lucid, conciliatory (and long-winded) Rose apologises to fans for cancelling four US dates in January and names March 6 as the new release date for 'Chinese Democracy'.He has also fired manager Merck Mercuriadis, who he blames for the suggestion that the album was going to be released this year, specifically on Boxing Day. Of the March 6 date, Rose said, "We would like to assure the fans that everything in our power will be done to meet this date. Once it is finalized and official, you will be notified."
Mercuriadis responded with another open letter stating that speculative release dates for this year were meant to be tongue-in-cheek. Regardless, he fully backed Rose, saying, "I believe 'Chinese Democracy' is one of the best albums ever made, Axl Rose is one of the greatest vocalists and front men and the new Guns N' Roses (which kicks the shit out of the old) is one of the greatest bands."
