Satirist Stephen Colbert has accepted Portland indie act The Decemberists guitar duel counter-counter challenge.
For those not up to speed, The Decemberists staged a contest where they supplied footage of them performing in front of a green screen so that fans could animate a clip on the background. In late November, satirist of right-wing pundits Stephen Colbert claimed that the band had stolen his idea from a contest he staged via his cable show 'The Colbert Report'. He blustered, "Let's see how well they perform their trademark brand of hyper-literate prog-rock when I'm slicing off their legs at the knee."The band responded via indie music website Pitchfork, challenging Colbert to a guitar solo grudge match, saying, "Put down the pen, Colbert, and pick up the axe! Let's see what kind of a man you really are. Let's shred!"
Colbert retorted, "Decemberists, I accept your counter-counter challenge. At last we'll see who reigns supreme." Colbert and Decemberists multi-instrumentalist Chris Funk will trade axe blows on Colbert's show, airing on December 20.
Let the shredding begin!
