New Order and Joy Division founder Peter Hook has announced that he will perform the debut album from Joy Division live for the very first time.
‘Unknown Pleasures’ was released in June, 1979. Less than a year later, lead singer Ian Curtis committed suicide.Joy Division recorded ‘Unknown Pleasures’ with Martin Hannett at Strawberry Studios in Stockport, England.
The album was completely funded by Factory Records owner Tony Wilson who put up the complete £8,500 needed to record the album and produce the initial run of 10,000 albums.
In its day, ‘Unknown Pleasures’ could have been considered a failure after it peaked at Number 72 on the UK chart but fared better years later after it was recognized as one of the greatest British albums of all-time.
Hook will perform the album from start to finish at his new club FAC51 in Manchester on May 18.
