The City Council of Oklahoma this week officially proclaimed 'Flaming Lips Alley' in the Bricktown district of the city in honor of local legends Flaming Lips.
Lead singer Wayne Coyne thanked the council for the honor, telling Associated Press "I can see all kinds of strange things going on there. It's like some little special thing."The naming of the alley has started a new issue for the council. Already, fans are stealing the street signs as a souvenir. The same thing happened in Melbourne, Australia after the city named a street in honor of AC/DC.
Oklahoma has named a number of streets after famous musical sons. Country singer Vince Gill and jazz musician Charlie Christian also have streets in their name.
