Happy 50th birthday Steve Poltz. Poltz is officially halfway to 100 today, or on a more positive note 5% on the way to 1000.
To celebrate his birthday, Steve Poltz will be performing a birthday gig at Solana Beach, California and dropping the first of a few new albums he has this year.The gig was in doubt a few weeks back when while training for the Winter Olympics (in his own mind) in Rossland, B.C. he crashed while skiing and earned himself “a spiral fracture in my fourth metacarpal”.
The gig tonight will feature a reformation of his first band The Rugburns and Mojo Nixon will be there to sing a birthday ditty or two. Expect a few famous friends to just be hanging around as well.
“No shows will be cancelled. The show must go on,” added Super-Poltz.
Today’s historic 50th also marks the official release of the ‘Dreamhouse’ album. This is the album he recorded with Canadian producer/songwriter Joel Plaskett. Cover art is by Joel’s wife, cartoonist Rebecca Kraatz.
Later this year, Poltz will release a second album, recorded in Perth with Malcolm Clark (Sleepy Jackson) and Shaun Sibbes (Sneaky Sound System). That album will be released mid-year and coincide with Poltzy’s 9th Australian tour.
