Kylie's Showgirl tour has finally hit her hometown of Melbourne after an eighteen month postponement, following her treatment for breast cancer.
The show has been hyped beyond belief and Kylie delivered on every note, from the flawless dance moves, somehow choreographed between the star and her twelve (yes, twelve) dancers to the impeccable sound quality coming from the five piece band (with an awful lot of backing). The homo-erotic show launched straight into the hits, as she opened with 'Better The Devil You Know'. The show included 'White Diamonds', a song she wrote with the Scissor Sisters during her time in New York.
Two hours and forty five minutes (including a 20 minute interval) after she hit the stage, the crowd was left bedazzled by the spectacular stage props, not to mention the stage itself, which seemed capable of anything.
The audience seemed dumbfounded when she burst into 'Where The Wild Roses Grow', a song she recorded in 1995 with fellow Melbournite Nick Cave, and one punter was heard saying "I always thought this was a Madonna song..." when she played 'Vogue' (...the Madonna song).
She worked the audience with her well planned girl-next-door image, with a couple of "heartfelt" speeches to a crowd ready to lap it up.
Her numerous costume changes saw her (and the entire show) change from Mardi-Gras style party girl to 80s chick to a Cleopatra-esque character to sex-machine to dream-girl to cyber-thing to anything else your imagination could conjure up.
Outfits were designed by (in order of appearance), John Galliano Couture, Richard Nicoll, Lee Benjamin (headpieces), Vivienne Westwood, Stephen Sprouse, Pam Hogg, Judy Blame, Bodymap, Leigh Bowery, Dolce and Gabbana, Karl Lagerfeld (for Chanel Couture) and Emilio Pucci.
There are 60 tonnes of equipment touring with the singing budgie, with a show that cost over $AU12.5million to design, carried around the country in 16 semi-trailers.
