In the year before his death, Jimi Hendrix was a prolific writer and recording artist. This new album `Valleys of Neptune` documents first time releases of these recordings almost 40 years after his death.
The title track to Valleys of Neptune was recorded twice, once in September 1969 and again in May 1970. By September, 1970, Jimi was dead. This full band version has never been released. An extract of a demo Hendrix made of this song, featuring just Mitchell on drums and percussionist Juma Sultan, was part of the short-lived Reprise/Polydor album Lifelines that was in the marketplace between 1990 to 1992.
In the lead-up to the release Sony Music is offering a chance at a not-for-sale limited edition collectors item Jimi Hendrix iPod Touch to be won for anyone who preorders the album here.
The prize includes the collectors edition Valleys of Neptune iPod Touch, a Jimi Hendrix canvas print and a CD pack featuring the newly remastered Jimi Hendrix CD collection.
Sony Music will release Jimi Hendrix ‘Valleys of Neptune’ on March 12.
