Former Talking Heads rhythm section, the husband and wife drum and bass team Chris Frantz and Tina Weymouth, will be at SXSW to talk about the iconic New York venue CBGBs.
Frantz and Weymouth, also known musically as Tom Tom Club, will talk about the early days of CBGB’s with Sire Records founder Seymour Stein.Talking Heads played their first ever gig at CBGBs on June 8, 1975 opening for The Ramones.
Stein signed Talking Heads to his Sire Records label for their first album ‘Talking Heads ‘77’. The Ramones were also on his label.
CBGBs opened in 1973 and closed in 2006. It was at 315 Bowery, near Bleecker St.
The venue was not only the early home of Talking Heads and The Ramones but also Blondie, Television, Patti Smith Group and Mink DeVille.
