Bluesfest Spotlight: Joe Bonamassa

By Paul Cashmere
Mon, 01 Feb 2010 12:13:32 +1100

With 58 days to go the Bluesfest, each day this month Undercover will give you the background on the acts of 2010.

Joe Bonamassa is an amazing guitarist.

Joe picked up his first guitar at age 4 and was playing Stevie Ray Vaughan note for note by age 7.

Bonamassa became somewhat of a child prodigy opening for B.B. King at the age of 12.

At 14, he formed the band Bloodline with Erin Davis, son of Miles; Waylon Krieger, son of Robby and Berry Oakey, Jr.

Bonamassa cites Eric Clapton, Paul Kossoff and Peter Green as his heroes. One of those heroes, one-time Fleetwood Mac guitarist Peter Green, is also on Bluesfest 2010.

Joe Bonamassa recorded his first solo album ‘A New Day Yesterday’ with producer Tom Dowd.

His next album will be as part of the supergroup Black Country with Deep Purple’s Glenn Hughes and John Bonham’s son Jason.

Have a listen to ‘Stop’ from Joe’s 2009 album ‘Ballad of John Henry’:

Bluesfest dates are April 1 to 5 at Byron Bay.

Joe Bonamassa sideshow dates are:

March 31, Sydney, The Factory Theatre
April 1, Melbourne, The Corner Hotel

  3. MARSHALL TURNS 50 WITH A BANG! And that's not the sound of an amp blowing up.

Who would have thought that 50 years ago in a drum shop owned by Jim Marshall, that the idea of an amplifier designed to help create richer sound for guitarists that couldn't afford exspensive gear from the States would become a household name.
