Mumford & Sons were not in Melbourne this week when the Triple J Hottest 100 winner announcement was made so Powderfinger filled in and performed their song `Little Lion Man` at Melbourne`s Big Day Out.
So it turns out the ABC leak of Mumford & Son as the Triple J Hottest 100 winner was real after all.Immediately after the ABC Store inadvertently published Mumford & Sons ‘Little Lion Man’ as the winner in an online teaser for the forthcoming edition of JMag, the spin doctors went immediately into action claiming the announcement was a publicity stunt.
As a publicity stunt it did work wonders. Triple J rival Triple M got in on the action criticising the ABC youth station of basically playing their game. Apparently the unwritten rule in Australian radio is that only commercial stations are allowed to play stunts.
Triple J was embarrassed by the leak and also tried to make out that it was not right.
But low and behold, the truth weighed out today when the top position was reached and Mumford & Sons really did have the number one song.
