The merger of Ticketmaster and Live Nation has been approved and the first decision made in the new company was to drop the Ticketmaster name.

From now on, the new company will be known as Live Nation Entertainment and will be listed on the New York Stock Exchange as LYV.

Live Nation Entertainment is now the most powerful music company in the world.

Live Nation brings to the table more than 22,000 concerts around the world internationally for 1500 artists in 57 countries. In 2008, the company sold over 50 million tickets.

The former Ticketmaster merged with Irving Azoff’s Front Line Management over a year ago. Ticketmaster operates in 20 countries including Australia and has 7,100 retail outlets.

Front Line Management is the management company behind more than 100 of the world’s biggest acts including Guns ‘n Roses, Eagles, Neil Diamond, Christina Aguilera and Bon Jovi.

Ticketmaster ceased trading on NASDAQ officially at close of business today.
