I’m going to be honest with you about two things; firstly I am not the biggest fan of metal. Secondly, I have a very short attention span – so instrumental albums are not something I enjoy. Although I can appreciate musical talent and I love reviewing music I tend find that without lyrics I get incredibly bored unbelievably quickly.
However in saying that, if you are a metal head, a fan of instrumental albums and enjoy listening to metal riffs and devastating melodies then I’ve got just the album for you: Antonello Giliberto’s recent release ‘The Mansion of Lost Souls’.
The Syracuse guitarist who has over 20 years of experience has finally branched out with12 chilling self-released tracks. If I can say anything about this album it is that it is sure to be any instrumental lover’s dream.
‘The Mansion of Lost Souls’ is both eerie and natural and has been described as dark and classical.
It is an offering of absolute diversity including a range of; neo classical power metal, cultural icons, influential ballads and just a little bit of acoustic influence. Giliberto is definitely a talented guitarist. Guitar lovers please take note – you haven’t understood true talent until you can master more than one genre.
Although I can appreciate the obvious hard work that has gone into creating this work of art – I feel as though more people would appreciate Giliberto’s stunning melodies if they had accompanying lyrics. I can almost imagine a vocalist such as Evanescence’s Amy Lee bringing these tracks to life with her morbid yet graceful vocal chords. (Instrumental enthusiasts will definitely disagree however they won’t change my mind).
I can understand where the praise is coming from however I would love to see Giliberto do more with his music.
