"All in My Head" will be the second full length album for New Zealand songstress Lisa Crawley. Friday the 13th is the date of the debut which may be shrouded in superstition for some, but not this lucky lady!
Prepare to be bewitched by "All In My Head" – I know I was!
The first thing that popped into my head when I started playing this album was Charlie's Angels and no I wasn't thinking about the Cameron Diaz, Lucy Liu and Drew Barrymore remake, I was thinking about the original 1970's version. Crawley is well known and praised for the 1960's feeling she creates within her music. However this album is something different entirely and could be a progression from the late 1970s.
Crawley promised her audience a "step up" from "Everything That I Have Seen" and she definitely lived up to her assurance and delivered with "All In My Head". On Friday fans will be presented with a second offering of love and loss, betrayal and trust and a little piece of Crawley's heart.
The album is quirky and playful despite the generally negative themes. Crawley does an exceptional job bringing a positive attitude and an optimistic light to tender topics and subjects that most people would normally choose to mope about.
Crawley is clearly an hopeful person and that resonates throughout her upbeat music. Instrumentals throughout are fun, playful and almost carnivalesque. Her tracks make you wish you were at the top of a Ferris wheel with someone you love, on a summer night at the exact moment the fireworks begin. The feeling you get listening to this album is almost indescribable. The clever use of the piano throughout allows each track a similar vibe yet provides a completely different tune for each. This definitely gives the album a memorable edge.
It took me a while to put my finger on it – but Lisa Crawley could definitely be compared to indie pop great Regina Spektor.
In saying that though "All In My Head" is the same brand of clever folk pop that we have all come to know and love from Crawley.
Song to listen out for: "Imagination" because it is the most ‘real’ thing I have ever heard. It's just a beautiful track.
