It's not hard to understand why Melbourne bluesy folk, songwriter Jack Gramski is often compared to Bob Dylan.
Having just listened to his debut album "From Crickets To Claps" the standout for me is the rip snortin' harmonica playing that is ironically both passionate and edgy but also has a timelessness about it that makes you wonder when the album was actually recorded.
Gramski wear's his influences all over his sleeve and then some, if it's not the clever lyrical response to global warming and terrorism in the aptly named song" Street Ramblin' Global Warming & Terrorism Blues" where the song ends with a cheeky homage to Dylan's Times They Are A-Changin', it's in the distinctive angry but cool headed Dylan-esque poetic license Granksi uses to articulate his thoughts in track 4 "Jack G" and others on the album.
Dylan is not the only thing on Gramski's sleeve, this is definitely an album born in Melbourne Australia. It's a combination of eccentric wit and questioning anger. I have a feeling that with a few more years under his belt that Jack Gramski will mature into a songwriting force to be reckoned with.
Gramski's sincerity, talent and no bullshit eccentricity is wholly refreshing in a world of hipster posers pushing out garbage. Nice one Jack.
