Despite torrential rain in Melbourne and an open-air gig on Jack Johnson day, the JJ fans came out en mass.
Johnson fans are obsessed with the singer. They know every word and don’t mind a sing-along either. A Jack Johnson gig is the gig of choice for nu-Hippies and surfers everywhere.
With five studio albums and a soundtrack now under his belt, Johnson has no trouble putting together a setlist of songs you know and on the ‘On The Sea’ tour, fans are being treated to a best of. In fact the first five songs came from the first five albums. The well-known ‘Taylor’ from 2003 kicked started the crowd vocally.
Johnson’s tribute to Sublime made the set. He also slipped in a nod to the Steve Miller Band with ‘The Joker’.
His latest ‘To The Sea’ album bookended the show – ‘You And Your Heart’ started us off, ‘At Or With Me’ finished off the night.
A special mention goes to Tegan & Sara and Ash Grunwald who played before Johnson when the rain was teaming down.
